Good morning people who approach the New Year with an increased desire for more of God.
Ephesians 3:17b-19 NIV …And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Once you have God, you have God. If you are a new creation, then you are a new creation. If you are a child of God, then you are a child of God. These truths do not change and cannot be added to.
But with God, there is always more revelation of who He is and there is always more transformation into His image!
I have long discovered that order is important to God.
Paul’s writing does not say: become more like God so that you can know God more. And yet, this is too often how we live our lives. We get the cart before the horse.
All the preceding lines of this scripture were written to people who know God and who are entering into the deeper revelations of who God is and His incredible love for us! To these people Paul effectively says: know the love of God more and you will become more like God.
Can you see the difference? It’s life-changing!
The more we behold God, the more we will become like God. This is the transforming power and work of sanctification, and it is best accomplished through a fixation on God.
For many of us, this simple yet profound shift of primary focus will be life changing as we step into a new year.
May we all become more like the One who is perfect love.
