Good morning people who honour Father’s intention for us to rest.
John 4:6 NIV Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
I love this verse!
Sometimes when I am feeling weary because of the amount of travel and ministry that I do, I remind myself that even Jesus got tired from his travel. We are in good company.
But I also see that Jesus didn’t always just keep on pushing through and keep on going. Every day Jesus spent time aside with His Father. He also sat down by a physical well because He physically needed to drink.
This makes me remember the raw story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19. Elijah had just had an incredible victory by defeating hundreds of prophets of Baal and Asherah. Then Jezebel threatened to kill him and he runs for his life and wants to die.
Part of God’s solution was very practical. Here’s what it says:
1 Kings 19:5-8 NIV Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
For some of you leading on the frontline of kingdom advancement, it might just be some good sleep, some good food and some good drink that you need. For some of you, it’s time to stop and rest.
