#5425 – Rest & Refreshing

Good morning people who follow the pattern set by God from the very beginning.

Exodus 31:17 NIV It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.

The Lord rested and was refreshed.

You don’t think of the Lord needing to be refreshed, but He was.

And this was the pattern set up for us: rest and refreshing. Both are needed and they are different.

In context, rest means ‘to repose; to desist from exertion.’ In other words, ‘to stop working.’

The word refreshed means ‘to breathe, and to breathe upon.’ Beautiful!

God’s pattern is both the stopping of work, but it is also about taking a breath and being breathed upon by God.

Man became a living being when the breath of God entered him.

The army in Ezekiel 37 came back to life again when the breath of God entered them.

This is our pattern for life too!

We live by the breath of God and we are sustained by the continual breath of God entering us.

Let’s be people who honour what was good enough for God to model to us: regular rest and refreshing is part of the rhythm of life.
