#5147 – The Father is Greater

Good morning people who continue to gaze daily upon the beauty of the Father.

John 14:28 NIV “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

This is one of those statements of Jesus’ that contains lots of mystery in it for me. And I like this, I really do. I can’t describe to you the joy I get when I don’t naturally understand everything that Jesus says or that the Bible says.

I know it might sound strange to admit this, but here’s why: I don’t want God to be containable and fully explainable. I don’t want a limited God who is just a little bigger and better than me.

I want to know the limitless God who is our God! And part of knowing God better is an awareness that there will always be more to discover!

Again, this is wonderful news because God desires to be found by us! Oh how I love this!!

Jesus said, “the Father is greater than I.”

What does Jesus mean by this? I’m not entirely sure!

The word ‘greater’ in the Greek means ‘larger, greater, elder, stronger’. It appears that Jesus means what He says, “the Father is greater than I.”

And that’s part of why He so clearly and so often points to His Father and desires us all to have a relationship with His Father – our Father – through Him.
