#4925 – Clothe Yourself

Good morning people who put on what accurately reflects Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:12 NIV Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Paul wrote this statement just after he declared that in Christ, there are no classes of people, and segregation is not an accurate reflection of the God who loved the whole world.

Paul then gets more detailed in how this should look.

He starts by reminding us who we are. We are God’s chosen people. We are not our own, therefore we have no right to do what we want outside of what God authors.

Paul reminds us that we are holy and dearly loved; we are set apart for noble purposes because we are loved so much by God.

From this restated position of extravagant acceptance by God, we are instructed to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Why?

Because this is what God is like, and therefore, this is what we should be like.

Naturally speaking, we clothe ourselves every day. Spiritually, we need to do the same. Before you engage with other people, ensure you are clothed properly with what honours and reflects God.

By this the world will know that we are Jesus’ disciples.
