#4921 – Put it Off

Good morning people who honour God by putting off the works of the flesh.

Colossians 3:5-10 NIV Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Jesus Christ is our salvation! In Him we have eternal life. It is not based on our good works, but on His finished work. Hallelujah!

And because of all that He has done, one who has experienced the love of God now puts to death and rids themselves of all practices that dishonour the one who gave His all for us.

Our focus here is so important. This scripture is based on our gratitude, not on our obligation. That said, we are obligated to allow the Spirit of God to change our lives as we submit to Him. But not begrudgingly.

Here’s the bottom line:

Does this thought, action or word honour the Lord Jesus Christ?

If not, then I choose to put it off because I love God so much.
