#4908 – Stolen Reward

Good morning people who guard against the deception of false teaching.

Colossians 2:18-19 NIV Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

What does Paul mean when he says, “Do not let them disqualify you?”

The phrase used here literally means ‘to defraud, to beguile of reward.’

Those who do the will of God are promised a reward by our Father in heaven. God wants us to receive this, and therefore, He warns us to ensure that we do not buy into a lie that will result in our reward being stolen from us through us believing a false doctrine.

This warning is against being deceived by certain people.

As I have mentioned before, a lie is often easy to spot and is therefore relatively harmless. But deception is when we believe a lie as if it were the truth. The power is in the deception.

Here’s a simple safeguard: Stay connected and submitted to other godly people, and only believe what points you to God Himself, not to angels or to other spiritual phenomena.
