#4867 – Enemies of God

Good morning people who were alienated from God before accepting Jesus.

Colossians 1:21 NIV Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behaviour.

I want to address something here that is almost offensive to some people these days. Let me explain.

We live in a time when everyone wants to be ok with their lives and their choices. Non-Christians want to be ok with their lives, as do Christians.

Therefore, part of what we do is we water down the language of our spiritual reality before we met Christ. We often also water down the language of the moments of sin that we commit even as believers (but that might be a topic for another time).

Before Christ, we were not good people who needed a saviour. Neither were we close to God, but just not quite there yet.

Here’s the truth: Every unbeliever is alienated (estranged) from God, they are enemies (haters) of God in their minds, and their behaviour is evil.

I know, this is offensive and over the top. Or is it? Isn’t the truth necessary in order for us to truly know the weight of our need for a saviour, a lord and a king? It is essential!

We cannot measure good and evil simply by sins of commission; sins that we commit. The greatest sin is rejecting Christ, and rejecting Christ is done by everyone who doesn’t accept Christ. This is the truth of the gospel.

So, what should we do?

We should keep on reading the next verse, which is exactly what we will do tomorrow.
