#4752 – Discerning the Source

Good morning people who are careful to listen to the right voices.

John 8:44 NIV You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your fathers desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

We need to discern the source of the voice that is speaking to us.

Everything the devil and the demonic realm speaks is either a lie, or based in a lie at the core of its motivation. Sometimes the lies are blatant, and sometimes they have elements of truth. But even when it sounds convincing due to evidence we see and facts we can’t deny, the motivation of the enemy speaking it to us is always to steal, kill and destroy.

It’s time to be more discerning of the voices that we are listening to. It’s time for the Church to be more discerning of what is truth and what is a lie. It’s time for the Church to understand the motivation of the enemy, and to skillfully and decisively redirect the conversation that he is trying to engage us with on his level, to a WORD based conversation of truth.

This is what Jesus did in the wilderness. Think about it: the devil spoke scripture to Jesus, therefore it was not a blatant lie. But the lie came in what wasn’t said audibly. Jesus needed discernment to understand what the devil was really saying, and very importantly, why he was saying it. The devil spoke “truth” in an attempt to get Jesus to abort God’s plan and purpose. Jesus saw through the devil’s “words of truth” to his “motivation of destruction”, and due to His discernment, chose the path that led to “completing the work that His Father gave Him to do.”
