#460 – Doubting Thomas

Good morning people who trust God fully

John 11:11-16 After He had said this, He went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought He meant natural sleep. So then He told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

Jesus made it clear that Lazarus was dead but He was going to raise him from the dead. You would think all the disciples would rejoice at this great news. It’s interesting to note the only response recorded; that of Thomas, known as ‘doubting’ Thomas in others passages.

Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

Thomas had a problem of doubting; in fact that’s what he became known for. He constantly was skeptical and gravitated towards the negative. There’s two things here I want to point out.

1. God loved him anyway. God loves you and I today also, dysfunctions, wrong thinking, bad attitudes and all. We must never forget this: God loves us no matter what.

2. Let’s not have ‘doubting’ become our first name. I don’t want to be known for my negativity, skepticism or doubt. Some of us today need to stop doubting and start trusting a little (maybe a lot) more. If you struggle with this, why not ask God to help change you today.
