#4511 – Spirit Submitted

Good morning people who refuse to be controlled by your flesh

Galatians 5:24 NIV Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

We have established that the flesh itself is not wrong (Jesus referred to His flesh, and He was perfect and sinless). Yet Paul tells us that ‘those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.’

So, what does this mean?

To put to death the flesh would mean that we humanly cease to exist. Therefore, this is not what it means.

It’s all about lordship. It’s all about who is our master; who we submit to and are controlled by. Crucifying the flesh is a living declaration that we are no longer controlled by our physical appetites, but by the Lord Jesus Christ through the in-dwelling Holy Spirit!

We are told to crucify the flesh, not to have a conversation with it.

When a desire comes (and it will) that is against what God has declared for us and for our freedom, don’t negotiate with it, try to appease, or think you are strong enough to play around the edges. Crucify it! Flee from it! Don’t surrender or submit to it!

Being godly is not evidenced by the desires you have, but by the decisions you make.

When a desire (from a fiery dart to our flesh) is different to what God desires (by His Spirit), we are to have the same mind as Christ Jesus: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”

You can walk in freedom by saying YES to the Spirit.
