#4509 – Human Flesh

Good morning people who understand the truth about the flesh

The flesh itself is not wrong or sinful; it is not the pre-Christ nature of sin that we had. We need to understand this.

The word ‘flesh’ (sarx) means: ‘the body (as opposed to the soul or spirit)’.

Jesus talked about us eating His flesh. Think about this. He was perfect and He did not have a sinful nature, yet He had flesh. Paul said we don’t fight flesh and blood, but we do fight spiritual demonic forces (indicating the flesh is different to the demonic; that which is sinful). Jesus told Peter that his revelation of who He was was not revealed by flesh and blood (referring to not being naturally taught).

None of these references (which come from the same Greek word sarx) refer to the old sinful nature. They talk about being human; having a physical body. Paul wrote the following:

Romans 8:13 NIV For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

Our flesh (our body and its desires) was created perfectly by God and functioned only in a healthy way, until Adam & Eve listened to an external voice that played to their physical sight (They saw that the fruit was good and pleasing to the eye).

As people not having a sinful nature, their sin came through an external temptation, and they choose to be led by their flesh, not by the Spirit. In reality, Adam & Eve allowed the flesh to rule the Spirit; what the devil said  about what was naturally pleasing to the eye overrode what God had clearly said.

And this is the same battle we face today with our flesh versus the Spirit. Our battle today is not whether we have a flesh (we all do), but whether our flesh rules (we live according to the flesh) or whether the Spirit rules.

It’s time to live by the Spirit; to live fully alive and free in Christ.
