#4259 – Do It Again

Good morning people who do what God says

Luke 5:1-7 NIV One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around Him and listening to the Word of God, He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fisherman, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then He sat down and taught the people from the boat. When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signalled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

Simon and the other fishermen were cleaning their nets which meant they had finished for the day. They had been working hard and had caught nothing. It must have been frustrating for them.

Then along comes Jesus, who was not a fisherman, and after He finished speaking He told them to put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Firstly Jesus wasn’t a fisherman so how much did He really know – I mean, this could have been quite insulting for those professional fisherman. Secondly they had finished for the day and they must have been tired.

But look at Simon’s response.

He acknowledged the facts – we’re worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. No one could deny this and he could have been excused for not wanting to go out again.

But note the next statement.

“But because You say so, I will let down the nets.”

Look at the result – the biggest catch they’ve probably ever had!

Let’s not miss out on seeing incredible results when Jesus asks us to do something…even if we’ve been busy, we’re tired and we’ve packed up for the day.
