#4237 – Job’s Life

Good morning people who God loves dearly

Was God sovereign in Job’s life?

I encourage you to read Job 1 today; it is full of great insights as well as some verses that leave you with some questions – but that’s not a bad thing.

Here’s a brief summary:

Job was blameless and upright, he feared God and shunned evil, he was the greatest man among all the people of the East and there was no one on earth like him. (Job 1:1-3, 8) That’s quite an impressive list of things to be said about someone!

One day the angels and Satan presented themselves before God and in the middle of the conversation Job is mentioned. Satan says to God that Job only serves Him because He has blessed him so much and put a hedge of protection about him. God then gives Satan permission to touch everything Job has but he may not lay a finger on Job himself. (Job 1:6-12)

The result is one disaster after another comes upon Job; his livestock were stolen and his servants were murdered, fire destroyed livestock and other servants, more livestock were stolen and more servants were killed and his sons and daughters were killed when a tornado destroyed the house they were in. The Bible says each layer of bad news came while the previous one was still being told – Job suffered overlapping disasters. (Job 1:13-19)

Was God sovereign in Job’s life or was Satan and circumstances?
