#4229 – God’s Righteousness

Good morning people who live for God every day

Romans 1:16-17 NKJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

The phrase that grabs me today in this passage is “For in it (the gospel) the righteousness of God is revealed.”

We are not righteous in and of ourselves, nor can we ever be. Our best efforts fall terribly short and there is no way for us to be righteous…that is apart from Christ.

You see the gospel offers a righteousness that comes from God because it is of God. That is incredibly good news. I’m not good enough – but God is!

This passage could have left it with “a righteousness of God” but it doesn’t. It finishes the sentence saying the gospel reveals this righteousness; the only real righteousness; a righteousness of God.

What do we reveal when we share the gospel?

Do we share the truth that our best efforts are insufficient but God’s grace is enough? Do we focus on God’s righteousness and not on our sin? Do we point people to a merciful God who yearns for relationship?

I believe we need to get the essence of the gospel right and that is it’s all about Him and us embracing by faith what He has done for us.
