#4045 – Jesus’ Baptism

Good morning people who love God and walk in obedience to Him

Matthew 3:16-17 NKJV When He had been baptised, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Jesus’ baptism was powerful, but in a different way than it is for us.

Our baptism is an outward sign of an inward need for cleansing and forgiveness.

The apostle Paul puts it this way:

Romans 6:4 NKJV Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Yet Jesus never sinned. He did not need to be baptised in the literal sense of what baptism means.

So why did Jesus get baptised?

I’m sure there are many reasons, but the two that I feel Father is highlighting to me as I meditate on His Word is:

  1. As an act of obedience to His Father’s command.
  2. As an act of identification with those He came to save.

Let’s lean in more tomorrow.
