#266 – Cling To Good

Good morning people with purpose

Romans 12:9c Cling to what is good.

In Romans 12:9 we are instructed to ensure our love is sincere, to hate what is evil and also to cling to what is good.

The word ‘cling’ here is ‘to glue, or to stick to’. So what are we meant to be glued to, to stick to? The answer is what is good. There is so much in here but I want to briefly bring out two aspects.

Firstly we must cling to God because God is good. It’s too easy and too common for people to give up on God, to be separated from God. When times are tough, many people become unstuck. It’s in these times that we need to get stuck; stuck to God Himself. When our primary reason for staying connected to God is what He does, we find it easy to drift during the difficult times. But when our focus is on God Himself and His eternal goodness, then it is easier to remain glued to, stuck to God because we trust Him.

The second area of good that we must cling to is found in the following passage.

Philippians 4:8 Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable
