#2102 – Godly Wisdom

Good morning people who listen, hear and obey what God says

Proverbs 3:13-15 (NIV) Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.

There is an understated need for wisdom.

For me wisdom is really about knowing the right thing in a given moment. Sometimes people pride themselves on knowledge and the ability to know formulas. The reality is life doesn’t always work according to what we know or a formula that should work. The problem is when people rely upon this knowledge and these formulas without listening to the wisdom that God gives in a given moment. The result can often be damaged lives as well as frustration, because ‘that should have worked’.

As mentioned, God is the Giver of wisdom and we need to ask Him for it.

James 1:5-6 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

I find it interesting to note the instruction to not doubt the wisdom we receive from God – I would have thought we would easily receive it and run with it. But the truth is God’s wisdom is often very different to what human logic and learned understanding would say.

James is really saying “What are you going to do with the wisdom God reveals to you? Will you believe and act on it, or will you ‘um’ and ‘ah’, debate it and default to what logic says?”

Men and women of God, I ask you the same question today: “What will you do when God speaks to you?”
