#2061 – Our Breastplate

Good morning people who protect others by not gossiping about them

(Today’s BIY written by Pastor Garry Leech)

Ephesians 6:14 (NIV) Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.

A breastplate covers the major organs; it protects them. I believe we need to cover and protect people.

Proverbs 17:9 (Amplified) He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends.

Proverbs 10:12 (KJV) Hatred stirs up strife: but love covers all sins.

Love covers a multitude of sins. In other words, this is between me and the person involved. If we’re talking with people who have no capacity to help solve the issue and reconcile the relationship, then we’ve uncovered someone.

To cover someone means ‘to only talk or reveal things that honour and hold them in high regard’. This doesn’t mean we should ignore and cover over wrong things that people do; we’re still committed to speaking the truth in love. But we are saying that we will not gossip and ‘share’ with others who do not need to know. This is covering and this honours God and others.

“Who do you need to cover this week?”
