#138 – A Table

Good morning wonderful people

Psalm 23:1-6 (Message) A David psalm. GOD, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of GOD for the rest of my life.

What a magnificent Psalm! This passage is full of God’s heart for us. I love the way it starts here; because God is my shepherd, my Provider and Protector, I don’t need a thing! We don’t need anything more than God! Sure God uses his people and situations in life to bless us but it all comes from Him; He is our source! When we need to catch our breath and find our direction again; God leads us. God is going before us and with us and promises to keep us secure if we will only submit to Him.

Let’s look at the next part of this verse for a moment. God prepares a table for us in front of our enemies; He prepares a feast to enjoy. This is so opposite to the normal response when we are confronted by our enemies. We all face them from time to time and often our response is fear, worry, anxiety and a sense of helplessness. God says, ‘When I am for you, who can be against you!” God is saying “I am looking after you and you do not need to be afraid because what can man do to you when I am ordering your steps! In fact, have a seat and enjoy a meal because I will fight on your behalf while your enemies watch you enjoy yourselves.” Our God is good!

This beautiful passage finishes by declaring God’s beauty and love chase us every day and that being with God’s people is the best place to be. I don’t know about you, but we serve an absolutely amazing God. Today let’s live with a knowledge that God is for us.
