#140 – Handle Correctly

Good morning people who love the Word

It’s one thing to read the Word, another thing to know the Word but it’s far more important to correctly handle the Word of God. Many times people read the Word and try to make it fit their situation. At times people have a theological bias that they creatively try to back up with scripture. Dare I say it; some people even justify sinful lifestyles based upon a scripture. I’ve said it previously but it’s worth repeating; the Word of God should not support our theology or lifestyle; it should shape it.

2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.

A practical example of this is when I have been preparing a sermon and a scripture comes to mind that sounds like it fits in perfectly. Upon looking it up and reading it in context I discover that it does not mean what I thought it did and it cannot be applied to the sermon. What do I do? Most people won’t know after all because it’s part of a whole that they will assume it means the same as what I did. Right? This has happened to me several times and I have never once knowingly used a scripture out of context. I want to be one who correctly handles and correctly teaches the Word of God.

How about you? Do you find scriptures to appease your life-style and support your views or do you correctly handle the Word of God and allow it to shape you and ensure you keep it in context? The Bible is God’s Word so together let’s honour it as such and always purpose to handle it correctly.
