#944 – God’s Authority

Good morning people with a powerful God

Mark 4:35-41 That day when evening came, He said to His disciples, “Let us go to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, just as He was, in the boat. There were also other boats with Him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, don’t You care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”

Jesus has authority over the storm and the source of the storm.

I am drawn towards the thought of the wind and the waves. This passage could have focused just on the storm as a single entity but it doesn’t. When Jesus took authority over the storm it mentions both the wind and the waves.

The source of the storm was the wind. The wind was not the storm but the source of it. Sometimes we are focusing on the storm (the waves) when we need to rebuke the source (the wind). Sometimes we focus too much on the effect and not the cause; the symptoms and not the root. This is deep and I’m not going to push into it further right now but I encourage you to meditate on this thought.

The effect of the wind was the waves and this was the part of the storm that made the disciples afraid. Jesus spoke to the waves also and they obeyed. Do you know how the waves stopped? Yes it was at the command of Jesus but it says then the wind died down and it was completely calm. The waves stopped when the wind ceased.

When you go to the source of the storm and allow God’s authority to be manifest, the storm will cease. Jesus has all authority
