#940 – Other People

Good morning people who consider others

Mark 4:35-41 That day when evening came, He said to His disciples, “Let us go to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, just as He was, in the boat. There were also other boats with Him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, don’t You care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”

The storm that affects us often affects others.

Yet too many times we become self-absorbed during the storms of life, never giving a single thought to how others may be feeling.

Now there are times when we need to give more focused attention to how we are doing. There are times when extra rest is needed as well as the support of other Believers. If this is where you are at, be wise and do what is necessary.

But don’t allow yourself to become completely inward focused. There is a trap that many fall into and that is the trap of selfishness during a storm. It sounds reasonable but it is often the thing that prolongs the storm.

Living beyond ourselves in the storms of life is part of God’s plan. During suffering and persecution, during challenges and storms, a focus on giving to others and meeting other people’s needs is exactly what Jesus did. His life reached its full potential and He fulfilled His Father’s plan.

Our lives too must be lived for others…yes even in the storms. We definitely need God’s grace for this, but it is available. You just need to ask and then step out beyond yourself and look around you for an opportunity to serve someone else.
