Good morning people who live in the Word of God
As I mentioned yesterday, it is essential to know the Word of God and not just read it. We absolutely must memorise Scripture to live life as God intends.
So how do we do this?
I had the privilege of memorising Scripture at school. Back then we used to write it down daily several times for a week. By the end of the week you knew it. I’m sure I’ve forgotten many of them but I am amazed at how many Scriptures are brought to my remembrance by the Holy Spirit in times when I need them. Getting them into me is my job. Recalling them is what the Holy Spirit does really well.
Over recent years I have memorised many more and it has been largely the same way. I take every opportunity I can to write or type out Scriptures. With BIY I type up almost all the Scriptures that you read. It is quicker for me to copy and paste them from a computer Bible program BUT it’s more important for me to memorise the Scripture than to be more efficient. Maybe efficiency is one of the biggest enemies of memorisation…but what’s MORE important? Memorisation is more important than efficiency. You getting more done is NOT as important as you knowing God’s Word MORE. Some of you need to shift your thinking with this today.
Another good thing to do is review the Scriptures regularly and say them out loud. Repetition in writing or speaking is the key. I know it’s not a new formula but then again, most of life is about doing what we already know.
Here’s the bottom line: if memorising Scripture is important to you, you will do it. And here’s another truth: if living a life pleasing to God is important to you, you will memorise Scripture.
I am not normally this direct in BIY but today I must be. For those already doing this, keep on going and do so more and more. For those of you who are not, even though you know it’s important, it’s time to quit making excuses or ignoring it and do something about it. As I said yesterday, this is life or death.
So go on, get into the Word and get the Word into you!
