#809 – Into The Desert

Good morning Spirit-led people of God

If you look at the greeting and the title of this BIY, there seems to be a contradiction: Spirit-led…into the desert. But there is a truth here that many today miss and the result is a life of frustration rather than fruitfulness. Let’s look at what happened to Jesus and seek to live life as He did.

Matthew 4:1 Then (just after He had been baptised, filled with the Spirit and publicly commended by His Father) Jesus was led by the Spirit (YEAH!!!) into the desert (Not so good!!!) to be tempted by the devil (WHAT THE?!?!).

Let’s not be religious when we read this; it doesn’t seem to make sense. Why would the Holy Spirit lead Jesus into a dry and difficult place and allow Him to be tempted by the devil? That’s a good question and one that many of us have asked in a similar way.

My dad, David McCracken, has often said that Jesus’ authority was not established on the cross; it was established in the desert. And so it is true in our lives.

We may not like it but our lives are forged in these desert times. Our character and spiritual authority is formed in these difficult times and places.

Here’s the truth: the Holy Spirit at times leads us to places we don’t want to go, to do things we don’t want to do…but He does so because He knows what it can produce in us!

I’ve said it before but it bears repeating: your problem is not your problem. Your focus on and during your problem is your potential problem.

Don’t lose sight of the fact it was the Holy Spirit who was leading Jesus and I want to remind us He didn’t leave Him alone in the desert. The same can be true in our lives. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
