#5701 – Do Not Consent

Good morning people who are wise when it comes to the company you keep.

Proverbs 1:10 MEV My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

Proverbs 1:15 MEV My son, do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path.

Some people need to make wiser choices on who they choose to hang out with.

It is true that Jesus hung out with sinners. But this truth cannot be separated from the equal truth that the influence always went from Him to them, and not the other way around.

If you find yourself around people that are enticing you to do the wrong thing and you are struggling with that temptation, it might be time for you to stop hanging around them. Verse 15 gives the wisdom of do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path.

Honouring God must become more important than pleasing people. Keeping in a sweet place with the Lord must be more important than keeping friends. And on that note, if your friends are enticing you to do the wrong thing, maybe they are not actually your friends.

Here’s what the apostle Paul wrote so clearly:

1 Corinthians 15:33 MEV Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.

Notice he first said do not be deceived. Paul knew that many people would claim to be able to handle hanging around with bad company. Therefore, he warned against this kind of deception.

The Psalmist wrote a similar thought in the following verse:

Psalms 1:1 MEV Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers.

It’s time to walk with people who will walk with you towards your Father in heaven.
