Good morning people who take responsibility for exercising your mind.
Colossians 3:2 NIV Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Set your mind: ‘to exercise the mind.’
We want things to be easy and automatic. I know I do (I’m just being honest with you).
But this is not the way warriors are formed!
As we discovered yesterday: fixing our eyes on Jesus involves the double action of turning away from something near, and staring at something else. This is literally what exercising the mind looks like.
I felt the Lord lead me to the dictionary definition of the word set. It means ‘to put into a fixed position’.
Think about concrete. The start requires exercise; there is shovelling and adding water and stirring and effort involved. Concrete isn’t automatic; it involves exercising and action.
But look at the result!
Once concrete is set – once it is put into a fixed position – it becomes immovable! That which took effort and that which was movable is now rock solid and it can be built upon!
So it is true in our lives!
Do you take the effort required to fix your mind on things above?
