#4725 – Pity or Praise?

Good morning who fill their darkness with sounds of praise to God

Acts 16:25 NIV About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”

This is one of the most challenging scriptures, especially in light of the previous few verses. Here they are:

Acts 16:22-24 NIV The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

No pity party for Paul and Silas, just a praise party. And they didn’t do it silently in their minds. This praise party in the prison was clearly heard by the other prisoners.

Acts 16:25 NIV About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”

Yes, the result was amazing, but so was the action. Or was it? Maybe it was reasonable. Maybe this is what is considered normal in the kingdom of God.

When things don’t go the way that you would like, do you have a pity party or a praise party? What do other people hear coming out of your mouth?
