#4684 – Patience Is…

Good morning people who are in love with the God of patience

Galatians 5:22-23 NIV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The word forbearance means patience, and this is who our God is – patient.

Peter asked Jesus how many times do we need to forgive people. Jesus answered, but He did so through the lens of His patience towards us:

Matthew 18:21-22 NKJV Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Yet when someone hurts or offends us, we so often and so easily forget about God’s incredible patience with us. Here’s more truth about God’s heart for us all:

2 Peter 3:9 NIV The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

God is not slow because He excuses sin, but because He loves people. But He is also patient because He knows we need saving from sin – in other words, He does not condone sin.

God’s patience is always founded in His love and His holiness.

Our patience needs to be the same.
