#3655 – What Sound?

Good morning people whose speech reflects the LOVE of God

1 Corinthians 13 is the famous LOVE chapter. It is often used at weddings, as well as in many sermons. But I wonder if familiarity has inadvertently watered down the depth of this most wonderful and revealing scripture.

So, let’s start to walk through it as we look to see what God is saying to us.

1 Corinthians 13:1 NIV If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have LOVE, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

This verse highlights the sound that we make.

It is saying that we can have the best words (human or spiritual), the most eloquent and profound language and imagery, and a tongue that is very persuasive, but if we do not have LOVE, our best sound is merely an annoying noise to others.

“What is the motivation for the words that you say to people?”

The truth is, we might win an argument with words, but we only win people with LOVE.
