#3430 – Older Counsel

Good morning people who learn from those who are older and more mature

I firmly believe in wise counsel, and I equally believe that most of the time that wise counsel comes through those who have lived longer than us.

There’s a story about a king called Rehoboam and you can read it in 1 Kings 12. In a nutshell, he needed to make a decision, so he sought counsel. First it was from the elders. But then comes this verse:

1 Kings 12:8 NIV But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

People want to hear what they want to hear. But this is foolishness when it comes to seeking after godly wisdom.

We need to have counsellors who walk closely with Father, who truly desire the best for us, and who will speak what we need to hear, even if they know we might not want to hear it.

It’s time for God’s people to walk with, listen to, learn from, and greatly value mature men and women of faith.
