#2975 – Jealous God

Good morning people whose God refuses to be common like other things we value

Exodus 34:14 (NIV) Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, Whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

The word ‘jealous’ is generally a negative term to us. When we say jealous, we mean ‘wanting what someone else has’. Jealousy and envy go hand in hand from a human perspective.

And in part, this can be translated to what it means with God and us. It is when we give our worship, our focus, our adoration and adulation to someone or something other than the One True God. When this happens, ‘God wants what we are giving to someone or something else’, be it our family, friends, work, ministry, sports or hobbies (in fact, the list can be endless).

Here’s a scripture that explains it well:

Isaiah 42:8 (NKJV) I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another (will not share with another), Nor My praise to carved images (to idols).

There are some things that are reserved for God alone, including our glory, worship and praise.
