Good morning people who walk free of the fear of punishment

Please allow me to speak another day on the following verses:

1 John 4:15-18 (NIV)If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Yesterday I encouraged us with the truth that in Christ, we are like Christ. I also encouraged us to believe this and confess this before we see it – this is faith and it pleases God.

Today I want to correct some disempowering and debilitating thinking that some Christians have. Here it is: One day I will stand before God and be judged for everything I have done wrong. All my sins will be put on a screen for all to see.

Here’s the truth: A forgiven sin is a forgotten sin and it will never be mentioned or shown by God again!!!!

In this passage above, Paul tells us we can have confidence on the day of judgement because in this world we are like Jesus. Did you get that?!!! We will be able to stand confidently before the throne of God because our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, Father looks at us and sees His Son and we are dressed in Jesus’ robes of righteousness!!!!

In case it is still not clear, Paul goes on to tell us perfect love (God Himself) drives out all fear because fear has to do with punishment. In other words, in Christ we have no need to fear because there will be no punishment for forgiven sins!!! This is some of the best and most liberating news in the entire Bible.
