Good morning people who live life looking forward,
(By Helen Calder – on team at DMM)
Hebrews 12:1-2 ‘Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.’
Have you ever been in a car when the driver momentarily looked in the rear vision mirror—and then had to brake suddenly because he or she had taken their attention off the road ahead and the driver in front had stopped unexpectedly?
You cannot drive forward safely whilst your attention is on what is happening in the rear view mirror.
The Bible tells us that in life, our focus should be forward on what God has called us to do, and it should be on Jesus.
And yet many times our attention is taken up by things that have happened in the past. The things that happened in the past we no longer have control over, but we do have control on how we choose to live our lives now.
‘Throw off everything that hinders.’ Is there something holding you back, keeping your attention on things of the past? Ask God to reveal to you today what that might be.
You may need to forgive someone, release an expectation, or simply choose to change your focus. Look to Jesus—you can face the future because He has gone before you.
Let Jesus and His purpose for your life fill your vision.
