Good morning people with a heart after God
(By Alan Stephenson)
Sometimes when the Lord tells me I can’t do something, or I can’t go somewhere I get all upset and uppity! I’m like Peter who was told by Jesus, “Where I am going you cannot come”. He was sure he had the goods to follow Jesus anywhere (John 13:36-37). When it came to the cross however, Jesus knew Peter didn’t have a chance without the Holy Spirit. He would need what moved the Spirit to move him in that direction, and as yet “the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:39).
What moves the Holy Spirit? What enabled Jesus to go to the cross? Above all else, it was and is the Father’s love. If the Holy Spirit is a missionary Spirit (and He is!), then love is the missionary factor within which compels us to go, enabling us to invade hitherto forbidden lands. Jesus turned to Peter and the disciples saying, “By this all men will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Paul labelled this missionary highway, the “excellent Way”, knowing that by it, in the power and order of the Spirit, God’s people would invade the whole world! (1 Corinthians12:31)
What a challenge! Dear ones, if we are walking in the Way of the Spirit, we will automatically be walking in the Way of Love
