#973 – Love ‘Sinners’

Good morning people called to a higher way of living

Flowing on from yesterday, let’s look at the next few verses.

WARNING: Some of the requirements in this passage are as difficult, but as necessary, as yesterday’s passage.

Luke 6:32-36 If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners’, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most high, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

The reality is, we as Christians are called to a higher way of living than what is normal in the world. The world’s standard should not be our standard; our measuring rod of how we are going. The Word of God, the Bible, is our standard for living and God tells us to love our enemies.

Why does God ask this of us?

Because that’s exactly what God does to His enemies…including us.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

May we love others as Christ loves us.
