Good morning people who give from what they’ve been given
Jesus had a great custom of going to Church every week. We would do very well to have the same custom.
Luke 4:16 He (Jesus) went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom. And He stood up to read.
I’m struck by the little line at the end of this verse: and He stood up to read.
Jesus contributed at the synagogue; He got involved.
The Bible is clear in 1 Corinthians 12 that there is only one Body (Church) but there are many members (people). The Word clearly shows us that God places people where He wants, and He expects us to contribute for the benefit of the Body (Church).
This is a huge mind shift that needs to take place for many today.
Church does not just exist to meet our needs. Church largely exists as an opportunity for us to bless others by our contribution. I remind you: Jesus went and He got involved.
I truly believe that when we go to give we are more likely to not be disappointed and unfulfilled. The current culture of the world is consumerism: others exist to meet my needs. Unfortunately it often creeps into Church culture…it’s time for that to change.
This weekend when you go to Church, I encourage you to intentionally go with the primary motivation of blessing others. You might be really struggling right now and think that is impossible. But my experience is that when I give (by God’s grace) from my lack, God does something wonderful in me. What He has done for me, He can do for you too.
