#851 – Follow Me

Good morning people who act quickly when God speaks

Matthew 4:18-22 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed Him.

When Jesus called these men to follow Him, they left what they were doing immediately and followed Him.

There was no thought about what they were to do with their different commitments. Their thoughts were simply to follow the One who had called them. Their immediate response did not allow time for questioning, doubts and rationalisation to determine a different response. There was something in Jesus that compelled them to follow immediately; at once.

How quickly do we obey when God calls us to follow Him?

I am convinced that God speaks to all of us many times throughout the day. The reality is Jesus often calls us at times where it’s not really that convenient for us. It wasn’t convenient for Simon, Andrew, James or John either. But they followed…immediately.

There are many good excuses why we will obey God…later…but none of them are valid. If God speaks, our response should be immediate.

Trust is the key issue. Do you trust God knows what He is doing? Do you trust that God’s plans are perfect and best for you? If you do, immediate obedience is the only reasonable response; the only one that pleases God.

Each morning when we get up, are we intentional about following God in every situation?
