#5725 – Forsake & Live

Good morning people who shut the door to the foolish way of living.

Proverbs 9:6 MEV Forsake foolishness and live, and go in the way of understanding.

Forsake foolishness and live – words we need to hear more often.

It reminds me of Jesus’ words to the woman caught in adultery: “I do not condemn you. Now, go and leave your life of sin.” Such a perfect fullness of both mercy and truth. Jesus saw the person and He saw the sin, and He loved the person enough to instruct her to ‘forsake foolishness and live’.

Forsake means to to leave, and foolishness means silly, and it means simple.

It’s time for the people of God to leave what is silly, and there is much in our world today that is silly (and that is putting it mildly). Actually, a better word for much of what we see today is ludicrous. It is both dangerous and destructive.

The word go here means to be straight. Now, this could preach on multiple levels, so, let’s go there. The opposite of straight is crooked. Another opposite is perverse. Anything contrary to God’s design is not straight; it is crooked and perverse.

The word way means a path that is trodden and a course of life.

The word understanding finds its root in to separate mentally (or distinguish). It is inseparable from the word discernment. From the beginning, God separated light from darkness. We are called to do the same and live in the light, just as He is in the light.

It’s time for the people of God to go in the way of understanding. This can only happen when we forsake foolishness and live.
