#5652 – Power to Know

Good morning people who receive the power of God in order to know the love of God.

Ephesians 3:16-17a NIV I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

Please read the above scripture a few times slowly. Let it sink into your heart.

Paul’s prayer was not just for the power of God to result in signs, wonders and miracles. Nor was it all about planting churches and transforming society. All of these are wonderful and essential to a New Testament believer and church, but it is so important that we accurately see what Paul kept on praying for.

You have heard me mention Ephesians 1:17 many times through BIY. Here it is again:

Ephesians 1:17 NIV I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

God’s desire and invitation is for us to know Him. This is the centrality of all that we confess and believe: knowing God.

Now don’t miss the depths of what Paul is saying. He could have simply said, “I pray that God strengthens you in your inner being’. This would have been powerful, but Paul wrote so much more under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit!

Paul writes that it is out of the riches of God’s glory that we are strengthened with the power of God through the Spirit of God. This is not something we receive as information to our mind. This is something we receive through divine revelation in our inner being; in our spirit.

The result of all of this is ‘so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith’. WOW!
