#5561 – Protected Sleep

Good morning people who sleep under the watchful eye of your heavenly Father.

Psalms 3:5-6 NIV I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.

The context of these verses are when David was on the run for his life from his son, Absalom. His enemies were pursuing him and ‘assailing him on every side’. These were extremely difficult days.

Many times the challenge can be extremely difficult days and extremely difficult nights.

For some, your night times are not easy times. I don’t know who you are personally, but the Lord does. He sees you, He cares for you and He knows you.

And so, it is to Him that I pray for you today. I pray that your nights will turn from darkness to light. I pray that your dreams will be prophetic and not terrifying. I pray that you will sleep soundly and sufficiently. I rebuke insomnia and every fiery dart of the enemy in Jesus’ name. I pray the Lord sustains you tonight and every night.

The word sustain in this verse means to prop, to lean upon or take hold of. This is what the Lord will do for you as you sleep. He will prop you up as you lean upon Him. He is your shield, your strength and your strong tower. He is holding you in His hands while you are sleeping.

I pray the following Psalms will be your reality by day and by night:

Psalms 4:8 NIV In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalms 23:1-6 NIV The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

I say, “Yes Lord, do it for Your sons and daughters.”
