#2269 – The Prize of Life

Good morning people who run to receive the greatest prize of all

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV) 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Natural sporting competitors will go into years of strict training and eating plans just to win a gold medal or the title of record holder. The result is never guaranteed and it can be heart breaking if they miss out on receiving a medal. If they achieve a new record, it can be broken as early as the following race. Medals are perishable and they can be lost.

There are also many other things that are perishable: money, career, looks, friends, health…and the list goes on. All of these things are temporary and they can be taken away in an instant.

The problem is, many people make one or more of these things as the greatest prize of their life; the goal that they are chasing the most. Permit me to speak very clearly today: If any of these things are most important to us, we have missed the point of life and we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.

“So what is the prize of life?”

God Himself.

Genesis 15:1 (NKJV) After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.

God is the Prize that will last forever; He is Eternal. When other things have come and gone, God remains. When people, wealth, looks and health have let us down, God is faithful. God is the prize that we are told to chase after.

“Are you running the race of life in such a way as to receive the Prize of Life and to know Him more and more?”
