Good morning people God knows personally

Many times our starting point for hearing what God is saying is a question or a prayer we are asking. This is a wonderful and vitally necessary way to hear God. Let me explain what I mean.

It’s great when we are in a difficult relationship to ask God what He says about it. It’s great when we are struggling with temptation to ask God what He says about it. It’s great when we are hurting to ask God what He says about it. It’s great when we are considering moving jobs or churches to ask God what He says about it.

But I want to crack open the idea today that there is another level of God speaking to us; a deeper level than many of us have considered.

Friends love to share what they are feeling and thinking with those closest to them. I am privileged to be married to Sally, my wife of seventeen years, and I love to chat with her about what I am feeling. This is not a burden to her, but rather a delight as I share what is important to me. And Sal does this with me also. It’s in the sharing of our hearts that we get to know and love each other more.

I am talking about sharing from a blank canvas, and not just in response to a question about a particular issue. This is a deeper level of relationship reserved for closer friendships…

…and this is God’s intention for us; to be a Friend who shares His heart with us.

John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you.
