#4405 – Insufficient Covering

Good morning people who don’t attempt to cover yourself with your best efforts

Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. At that moment they realised they were naked. Their immediate response was to try and cover themselves.

Genesis 3:7 NIV Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Strong’s tells us that these coverings were ‘belts for the waist, loin-covering, apron’. Now I am no genius, but this is not sufficient covering if you ask me!

And apparently it wasn’t for them either, because only a few verses later (after they had clothed themselves in their best efforts), Adam said the following to God while trying to hide amongst the trees:

Genesis 3:10 NIV He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

Adam had covered himself, yet he hid because he still felt naked and exposed. Our best efforts don’t cover our sin and shame.

But God’s goodness, mercy, love, grace and forgiveness do! God’s covering for our sins is sufficient.

Let’s look at that more tomorrow.
