Good morning people who choose to allow God’s peace to govern and prevail.

Colossians 3:15 NIV Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 

Paul writes that we should let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts. The word rule means to arbitrate, that is to govern and prevail. Wow!

What do you and I allow to govern and prevail in our lives?

If I’m honest with you, many times – far too many times – I allow feelings and circumstances, pain and disappointment, hurt and betrayal, confusion and fear to govern and prevail in my life. I would like to state something different, but this is the truth.

I feel the love of the Father right now. His tone and His voice is not the sound of condemnation, guilt or shame. Our heavenly Father is the God of love, mercy and grace. Our heavenly Father willingly and wholeheartedly chose to adopt us as His sons and His daughters. He desires us and He loves us!

As I mentioned yesterday, I am sure that Paul and John the Baptist both needed to encourage themselves in the Lord, just like David did in 1 Samuel 30:6. These statements of truth were not declared by men who were indifferent to our struggles, but rather, men who knew that they need to let – that is, choose – the peace of Christ to rule – to govern and prevail – in their hearts.

Godly people choose to turn Godward.

The decision to not allow an inferior ruler to dominate and dictate to us is part of the Christian journey of becoming stronger in Christ.

Spiritual authority is only developed when spiritual authority is needed.

And it is amazing how closely connected spiritual authority and the peace of Christ that rules in our hearts actually are. The longer I live, the more I am aware that I choose what I allow to rule in my life. I choose what to put on and what to put off. I choose what to set my heart and my mind on.

I choose what I accept.
