Good morning people whose hearts are set at one again in who God is.

Colossians 3:15 NIV Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 

The word peace means prosperity; quietness, rest.

We can have inner quietness and rest while there is external pain and suffering.

We can have inner quietness and rest while there is confusion and a lack of clarity.

We can have inner quietness and rest while there is still countless things that need to be done.

We can have inner quietness and rest while the future appears unclear.

We can have inner quietness and rest while there is much chaos and unrest in the world.

And here’s how we can do this:

Philippians 4:13 NIV I can do all this (be content in all circumstances) through him who gives me strength.

One of our greatest needs as followers of Christ is to truly know that we can’t do any of this Christian walk outside of full reliance upon the Lord. Our best efforts will always fall short. And that’s ok because it is not our best efforts that God is after. He is after our heart and after our dependance upon Him for everything.

The word peace means to set at one again. To set at one again denotes a need to come back to a place of peace. As I think about Paul in that horrific prison, I can’t imagine how difficult and imposing those moments must have been when Paul felt overwhelmed. To see it another way is to put Paul on a pedestal and to declare, “That’s ok for you Paul because you are Paul.” He was a man like us.

It makes me think of John the Baptist; a man who prepared the way for Jesus. This giant of the faith also had a prison stay that ended in his execution. While awaiting his deliverance by the Messiah (which never came as he expected), he sent two of his followers to ask Jesus if He really was the One. John had a time of uncertainty. Jesus didn’t condemn this; in fact, this is where He commended John to the people as the greatest ever born.

Sometimes we need to be set at one again.

Sometimes we need to come back to who God is, what He has said, and very importantly, that He is for us and not against us. This truth is where we find true peace.
