Good morning people who live in the created intention of Almighty God.
Genesis 1:27 NIV So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Galatians 2:20 NIV I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Recently the Lord highlighted the word identity to me and I knew He wanted to speak. As I lent in, I heard Him tell me to look at the difference between the words identity and identify. Here’s what I saw.
Identity is the fact of being who a person is, from the origin of same, quality of being identical.
Identify is to assign (a particular characteristic or categorization) to oneself, from the origin of make, treat as being identical with.
We were created in the image of God, and it is in Him that we find our true identity. We are who God created us to be and we are who God declares us to be. This is our God-given identity.
As it has been from the beginning of time, mankind somehow landed in the place of thinking that we know better than God. We never do! People try to form God into an image compatible with their own desire, and many also try to fashion themselves into an image (an identity) different to God’s pattern and creation.
The essence of the word identify is to wear a label that is not true.
The difference between identity and identify is the difference between the truth and a lie.
The difference between identity and identify is the difference between what God says and what we feel or think or desire.
The difference between identity and identify is the difference between freedom and slavery.
In many cases, the difference between identity and identify is the difference between life and death.
God created us to live with our identity being IN CHRIST.
It’s time to say about yourself what God says about you.
