Good morning people who give your time and focus to what is most important.

Matthew 6:19-21, 24 NIV “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also…No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Jesus is not saying we can’t work, earn a living, buy food and clothes, or even purchase cars or homes. Jesus is talking about our heart; about what we value and honour the most.

It is not wrong to own things, but it is wrong for things to own us.

When earning more money takes the priority over being with God, spending time with the family, or regularly gathering together with the people of God, something is wrong.

When accumulating wealth for ourselves is a greater priority than generously giving to those in need, something is wrong.

When having more debt is more acceptable than being content with little, something is wrong.

When spending money on our hobbies and interests take precedence over sowing financially into kingdom purpose, something is wrong.

When finding excuses for where we spend our money is justification for not obeying what God has told us to do, something is wrong.

Finances are not everything, but how we handle and spend money is an indicator of what is happening in our heart. This is what Jesus said, and it is as true today as it was 2,000 years ago.

You cannot serve both God and money.

Who has your heart?

Father, my life is not my own. I am Yours and all that I have is Yours. Please help me to steward well what You provide, and help me to never become a slave to what is only temporary. I choose to store up treasure in heaven. I love You Lord.
