#6398 – Authority & Worship

Good morning people who refuse to buy into the lies that the devil tries to sell.

Luke 4:5-8 NIV The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”

Jesus was tempted by the devil to take a shortcut.

Originally, the authority on earth was given by God to Adam. Adam legally handed it to Satan when Adam disobeyed God.

Through His death and resurrection, Jesus rightfully took back dominion and kingdom authority over earth from the devil. He once again placed it into the hands of those who now follow Him.

In this temptation, the devil was effectively telling Jesus that He didn’t need to go to the cross in order to get back the authority over the kingdoms of the world. This was “an easy way out – a shortcut”, and as we know, Satan is the father of lies; what he says is not what he does.

I find it interesting that the devil tried to tempt Jesus in two similar ways that he himself fell from glory. Firstly, he wanted some of the power that God had, and secondly, he wanted to be worshipped like God was worshipped. Lucifer gave into this temptation, Jesus did not!

Jesus overcame the devil’s attack by quoting Scripture.

I truly believe that we need to get better at quoting Scripture as our first option. We need to know God’s Word and we need to declare God’s Word. It’s time to become familiar with, “It is Written!”
