Good morning people who overcome the enemy with God’s powerful Word.
Luke 4:3-4 NIV The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”
Jesus was tempted by the devil to question His identity.
This is such an issue today. Many people are questioning their identity. Many Christians don’t know who they are.
Part of the method of the enemy in this pervading question is competing voices and words of accusation and condemnation. Thoughts of “you should know better’, and “if you were a more spiritual Christian”, and “who do you think you are?”
Constant voices. Constant criticism. Constant questions. Frequent doubts. This is the narrative for many.
Jesus overcame the devil’s attack on His identity by quoting Scripture.
Two things are important here.
Firstly, Jesus’ response was, “It is written!” The truth of God’s Word is our best weapon against the lies and attacks of the enemy. There is nothing more powerful!
Secondly, Jesus did not enter into an open-looped dialogue with Satan, going backwards and forwards in endless arguments. Jesus went immediately to God’s Word and shut the devil down!
God’s Word in Jesus’ mouth was powerful! God’s Word in your mouth is equally powerful!
